So when I was asked to write an entry for Amy’s blog, my thoughts first went towards writing some grandiose tribute to her, which is actually something I could write about at length and get to use lots of fancy words like “grandiose,” but I figured that would embarrass her and come off as some sappy attempt to cover up the fact that I did not buy her an expensive piece of jewelry or a new car for her birthday, and my motives might get questioned. Insert Quippy Line from a Song that is in Theme with the Topic of this Article (Any line from “Cat’s in the Cradle” probably works) Well here is my effort, which is neither funny, interesting, nor poignant, but is on-time, and for the most part, my comma usage is in-line with generally accepted writing standards for the English language, at least as applied here on the “non-Queen’s” side of the pond. I assume to illustrate to us just how hard it is to come up with something funny, interesting, or poignant to write about, just this once, not to mention doing it 3-5 times each week. So my wife, as added torture to the already difficult job of navigating her birthday celebration, has asked for the gift from each of her family members of a writing submission, that she can post publicly for all to see. Today we have a guest post – at my urging because I am the fourth best writer in my immediate family, the least funny and I barely edge one family member out on lack of applied comma rules – enjoy….
