![]() The character cosmetics seem to come at a very slow rate, and none of the options I've seen seem all that exciting The game is packed full of cosmetics, but most of them are weapon cosmetics.I find that a little disappointing, because ultimately I'm just pushing forward endlessly, not to achieve anything in particular. You're seeking to defeat 'the virus' but there's no end-stage or anything like that as with other roguelikes (at least I don't believe there is). There's no obvious antagonist or goal in the game. You get one meaningful conversation at the start of the game, and that's it really. Narratively, everything seems forgettable. You can get out, but it takes like 5 seconds for whatever reason. Sliding is fun but it's easy to get stuck into walls if you use it too close to a wall.I wonder how I'd feel about this after the challenges dry up though. It provided me with enough motivation to push forward for another run, in an attemtp to complete another challenge. The gameplay loop with the challenges seems to work well enough. In stage 8 for instance the game starts introducing a horde of fast-sprinting creatures and that really keeps you on your toes compared to the previous stages. ![]() Enemy variety is surprisingly good, even up to stage 9 the game was constantly introducing new enemy types and some of them really do change the way you play. There are a good number of guns in the game and as a such, each run is differentiated by which you find. For the most part finding different guns is a good means of adding variety to a run.Reminds me of the challenges in games like Taketwo, where they're intended to be lighthearted, but momentarily entertaining. Matchmaking and invites work, though matchmaking can take a while given how few people are playing right now. On the networking side, everything seems fine. It's a good meetup place for you and your co-op partners too. I like games with hub spaces where you can just idle around. The HUB area is a nice place to just wander around and relax in.Graphcially the game is always pleasant to look at, and seems to run well on the PS5 (as you might expect given the games aesthetic).I think there are four biomes and they all play differently, mostly based on how vertical or claustrophobic they are (for instance, the confines of a cave play very differently to the circuitboard city with its floating platforms). Even at this early stage the biomes have pretty good variety. There weren't many weapons that I felt were 'weak'. Weapons are fun to use, all of them seem pretty unique and provide good feedback. The double jump, sliding and overall feel of the game is really good. So far the furthest I've gotten solo is stage 9. Here's my quick review after a few hours with the game. I've gone multiple levels without being able to swap a new gun/run out of ammo. Kinda wish there were more loot chests scattered around too. For example, if you shoot an enemy with an ice gun and freeze them, you can slide into them to toss them back and they'll shatter when they hit the ground. ![]() You can sprint, double jump, slide, and roll pretty easily to keep strafing around enemies, Sliding and rolling also kicks the enemy into the air which you can combo with your weapons. Had a shotgun that shot out laser blades and a saw gun that fires ricocheting giant blades. Your standard fire, electric, ice, explosive sets as well as a handful of unique sets. There seems to be a couple maps based on each "theme." So far I've seen a neon digital computer land, a floating island mystic land, some awful acid filled level, and a post-apocalyptic city. More than I expected for a game that's not coming out til next year. After a run you can talk to the gang leader again to get a big boost in exp as well as special attacks, cosmetics, etc. You can either end the run whenever you want or keep going to get a better ranking. There's optional objectives for more stuff. To "complete" a run you just have to finish the main objective (eg: reach difficulty level 8 within 45 minutes). They drop a red chest filled with 4-5 high rank weapons. Some levels have boss battles that are kinda fun but pretty easy. They drop weapons, health, ammo?, and mods that augment your weapon damage and skills. There's blue, pink, red, and gold so far. Loot is gained through boxes scattered around the level. Each level has certain tasks you have to complete in order to move on. Runs last forever(?) The further you get the higher your ranking, but the difficulty also increases. You start with nothing other than your equipped special abilities and whatever cosmetics you've acquired. Collect an objective from one of the gang leaders. The loop so far seems to be: (single player rn, cant find a multiplayer game for the life of me) Alright, the best way I can describe this is "co-op PvE objective based looter shooter with rogue lite elements."
